Silk Shoes

Review
What would you do if you had an aging parent whose only wish before s/he dies is to be reunited with loved ones from whom they were separated by the war and subsequently the 38th parallel? In what appears to be a conscious effort to avoid the melodramatic, `Silk Shoes' addresses this issue with a creative storyline that intersperses comedy throughout. If the film had stuck with the absurdity of the situation, I anticipate it would have been an absolute gem. Unfortunately, the comedic elements are over the top and detract from the film. On the flip side, the strength of `Silk Shoes' lies in the father's tragic story and heartfelt desire to return "home" to North Korea. It is in these moments that the film will touch your heart.
